This post is a little old but I'd still like to suggest something to you: the Library Book by Susan Orlean. It gives you a new appreciation for what libraries are, were, and what they are to become. It's probably the best written book I've ever read, too
Thanks for sharing. The only one I've read so far is Wild, but I'll be adding the rest to my reading list! I recently finished Rooted by Lyanda Lynn Haupt, and A Year In The Woods by Torbjoyn Ekelund. Loved both of them.
I have loved Braiding Sweetgrass and Into the Wild. Gathering Moss, Wild, and A Walk in the Woods are all on my list. What a beautiful collection you've put together. I love the idea of "down to earth" as a reading genre.
I second The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society! Apart from Wild (read that one), everything else that wasn't already on my reading list, is now on it. Hopeless bookworm, here 🙋♀️
I just found you on Substack, I can’t wait to look more into this reading list and your other things when I get the chance! I love the reading playlist from what I’ve heard so far. I’ve read some of Braiding Sweetgrass and I’d love to get back to reading it. I recommend The Words in my Hands by Asphyxia- a semi-dystopian young adult novel about a deaf girl who finds power in learning sign language and the revolutionary nature of gardening. The main character is an artist so many of the pages are written in the form of an art journal. I found it so inspiring, I recommend it to everyone.
Thank you for sharing. I have read some, others are on my TBR, we have quite similar reading I think. Wanted to recommend Hagitude by Sharon Blackie. 😊
Not me having read half and having the other half on my TBR or book shelf! There were 2 I’m unfamiliar with, so got to add them to the list! Thanks for confirming the hyper niche I’m into 😂
What a fantastic list! I've got a few to put on my tbr (which is very exciting). The only ones I've read that you mentioned here are The Four Agreements and Braiding Sweetgrass, which just so happens to be one of my all time favorite reads ever.
Thank you for sharing your recommendations. I've read and loved some of these books and want to read all the rest. My favorite down to earth book is Rooted by Lyanda Haupt. It weaves science, spirituality, and her own experiences in beautiful prose to discuss the value of having a deep relationship with our natural surroundings.

love it!!!!
I've read a couple of these and have several on my TBR as well! I just began listening to the audiobook for Wild, and I'm loving it so far.
I love the playlist you shared! My brain also cannot handle highly lyrical music while attempting to read haha
I also read Wild as an audiobook! I really enjoyed it that way
English books are pretty hard to come by in the wilds of Romania, but I've heard of most. Braiding Sweetgrass is a lovely book!
Thank you so much for sharing these💚

These all sound so good! I’ve read (and loved) a few and am adding the rest to my list
